This review focuses on a rather full-bodied sour mash expression which was distilled in 2011, matured in a barrel for 5 years before being bottled at a cask strength abv of 59.7% in 2017.

The Single Cask American Sour Mash 2011 5 Years Old (59.7% abv)
Nose: Mellow oak, wood varnish, cotton candy, stewed apples and mint initially, with hot cross buns, toasted wheat and just a hint of acetone. Palate: Cinnamon, hot cross buns and mellow oak to the fore, with acetone hints, popcorn, cotton candy and black pepper developing over time. Slightly grainy. Â Finish: Medium on the finish, with vestigial oak and acetone hints as well as some sweetness. Green tea notes develop later on.
