The Single Cask Whisky Review #83: The Single Cask Deanston 1997 20 Years Old

This week's review focuses on the next expression in a series of reviews devoted to the new arrivals within The Single Cask range, and we've put up a rather amazing Deanston!

This expression was distilled in 1997, matured for 20 years in a single bourbon hogshead and bottled at a cask strength abv of 52.7% by The Single Cask.

So, let's dive right into the review!

The Single Cask Deanston 1997 20 Years Old (Bottled at 52.7% abv)

Colour: Amber

Nose: Very interesting, a meaty Deanston! Savoury, waxy elements quite apparent at the fore. Sweet, somewhat complex and with a mineralic edge to it. Some oak and white pepper coupled with slight citrus.

Palate: Slight savoury notes coupled with oranges, limes, sea salt and wax. Are we sure that this isn't a Clynelish? More of the fruits emerge later on to complement the sea salt and waxy elements.

Finish: Long, lingering, sweet and waxy. A real treat!

Balance: An exceptionally well-balanced expression which exhibits some interesting waxy and salty elements coupled with citrus fruits and oak. The mouthfeel is largely oily but with a drying edge.

This expression is available for purchase by the dram or as a part of a flight for in-bar consumption, as well as by the bottle for either in-bar or retail/takeaway purposes. Please approach our friendly staff for more information and they will be more than happy to assist you with any queries you have have.
