The Single Cask Whisky Review #78: SMWS 10.115

This week's review focuses on another expression from the latest SMWS Outturn which has arrived at The Single Cask.

This expression was distilled on the 6th of October 2006, matured in a refill bourbon hogshead for 10 years before being bottled at a cask strength abv of 62% by the SMWS and with an outturn of 202 bottles.

So, let's dive right into the review!

SMWS 10.115 "Free The Imagination" (62% abv)

Colour: Bright gold

Nose: Initial entry presents a rather floral note which is reminiscent of lilacs, followed by hints of sea salt and brine. Grassy aromas soon follow and it is complemented by salted caramel, hints of citrus and oak.

Palate: Initial entry presents more of the grassy and floral hints from the nose and they are complemented by hints of garlic, pineapple and some green tea. With time, sea salt, cinnamon, ginger and oak emerge and are followed by salted caramel and brown sugar.

Finish: Medium to long on the finish, with the salted caramel, sea salt and cinnamon being rather prominent.

Balance: A rather well-balanced and unusual expresion which doesn't display any hints of peat. The floral elements make this expression even more unusual and just adds on to the intrigue. The mouthfeel is slightly oily but becomes rather drying over time.

This expression can be purchased by the dram at the bar and SMWS Members can also purchase it from the website for the exceptionally affordable price of $240. Please be advised that there are a limited number of bottles and this expression will not be around for long.
