The Single Cask Whisky Review #74: Glenburgie 1995 21 Years Old

Glenburgie is a distillery whose expressions are not seen very often due to its importance as a core component within the Ballantine's range of blended Scotch whiskies. In recent times though, Pernod Ricard has released a 15 Years Old expression of Glenburgie in order to highlight its role within the blend.

This week's review focuses on an expression of Glenburgie which was distilled in 1995, matured for 21 years before being bottled at a cask strength abv of 53.1% by The Single Cask.

So, let's dive right into the review!

The Single Cask Glenburgie 1995 21 Years Old (53.1% abv)

Colour: Bright gold

Nose: Initial entry presents rose water and rock sugar, coupled with cherry blossoms, plums, dates and lemon juice. There is a slight soapiness with is complemented by hints of thyme.

Palate: Initial entry is sweet and spicy, with the rose water, rock sugar and cherry blossoms being complemented by cinnamon and nutmeg. Floral notes coupled with lemon and date hints emerge and there's an oaky note on the mid-palate. Thyme emerges towards the very end.

Finish: Long on the finish, with faint sugar and floral hints being coupled with fleeting oak.

Balance: A rather well-balanced and flavour-forward expression which exhibits all the typical notes that one would expect from a Glenburgie. Somewhat more-ish and enjoyable.

This expression of Glenburgie can be purchased by the dram or the bottle for in-bar consumption or by the bottle for retail/takeaway purposes. Please approach our friendly staff for more information and they will be more than happy to assist you.
